Frequently Asked Questions

At Pup to Pooch, we understand that every dog and owner has unique training needs. That’s why we’ve compiled some frequently asked questions to help you learn more about our positive reinforcement training methods, what to expect from our sessions, and how we can support you and your dog on this journey.

At Pup to Pooch, all training is positive reinforcement because it is a scientifically proven and ethical approach to dog training. Reward-based training helps dogs learn in a way that is enjoyable, stress-free, and builds confidence. Studies show that dogs trained with positive reinforcement are more engaged, responsive, and eager to learn.

By focusing on rewarding desired behaviours rather than punishing mistakes, we create a strong, trusting bond between you and your dog. This method not only improves behaviour but also enhances your dog's overall well-being and happiness.

Training should be fun, fair, and fear-free—because learning is best when it’s built on trust!

Our 1-2-1 training sessions are designed to be as effective and convenient as possible. Training can take place in your home, a local park, a field, or any environment best suited to your dog’s specific needs. By working in a familiar or relevant setting, we can address real-life challenges and help your dog learn in a way that’s both comfortable and practical.

We start with a free consultation call to discuss your dog’s needs, challenges, and training goals. This allows us to create a personalised training plan tailored specifically to you and your dog. Each session takes place in your home or real-world environments like parks or public spaces, ensuring training is practical, effective, and suited to everyday situations. Our goal is to give you the skills and confidence to reinforce training in real life.

Currently, I focus on 1-2-1 private training sessions to provide personalised attention tailored to your dog’s needs. However, I may introduce small group workshops in the future for skills like socialisation, scent work, and recall training—stay tuned!

Frequently Asked Questions

Training should be an enjoyable, stress-free experience that strengthens the bond between you and your pup. Whether you’re looking for help with general life skills, confidence-building, or behaviour challenges, we’re here to guide you every step of the way!

Absolutely! I have experience working with rescue dogs and those facing behavioural challenges. Whether your dog is dealing with fear, anxiety, reactivity, or confidence issues, I use positive reinforcement techniques to help them feel secure, build trust, and develop good behaviours in a supportive way.

Every dog is unique, and progress depends on factors like age, temperament, past experiences, and consistency in training. Some behaviours improve quickly, while others take time, patience, and repetition. I provide guidance so you can continue training between sessions and see lasting results over time.

I work with dogs of all breeds, sizes, and ages! From playful puppies to senior dogs, and from small companion breeds to large working breeds—every dog can benefit from training tailored to their personality and learning style.

Yes! Training is most effective when everyone in the household is on the same page. I encourage families to participate so they can learn how to communicate with their dog consistently. This helps reinforce behaviours and creates a harmonious home environment.
